Mobo Tour 2010 - Kof, Mz Bratt, RD, Scorcher - Liverpool - Review

The Mobo Tour came to Liverpool on Saturday night, not that a lot of people seemed to notice with a poor turnout of about 70. Low numbers never hindered the event too much though, with a lively crowd responding well to the animated performances, adding a voice to the missing few hundred.

Kof kicked things off as the regional act representing Liverpool. I only caught half the set because the organisers messed up times, but even so he demonstrated why he is Liverpool's best, doing the city proud whilst bridging the gap between northern and southern talent:

RD were the next stand out performers of the night, with their mixtape having been on rotation during the recent weeks, they were the most anticipated act of the night for me, and the majority of the crowd it would be revealed. They have the potential to be great providing they can resist falling into 90's cheese and continue to strive to be a relevant, unique force to be reckoned with.
Performing 'Billionaire' as heard on their mixtape worked out well, even those who were unfamiliar got to know very quickly, nevermind later:

They've got everything that's needed in music right now, their uniqueness and passion for what they do teamed with effortless raw talent should push Martika, Troy and Chronz to the forefront of UK talent.

Next up was Mz Bratt. A bit of bribery got the crowd on side, and she delivered incredible performances including 'Who Do You Think You Are' and her latest single 'Selecta', proving she's one of the best artists the UK currently has to offer. For the only unsigned act on the tour, Bratt was the definite highlight. The best performance of the night, for me, came when she brought out Selah. 'Woman's world' is one of my favourite tracks this year so it was good to hear it live, it reminds me of the whole Rasheeda movement type of sound, which is long overdue in the UK:

Last of the stand out performers came in the form of Scorcher. He proved popular with the fellas and ladies and got shown a lot of love. Best of the set was 'It's my Time' which is making a lot of noise lately, it's been a regular on my playlist for a few months now and the delivery of it live was just as emphatic. Holdtight (lets pretend I'm cool enough to use that word) the kid that got the words wrong:

Angel performed and was quite good, the only thing he lacked was original material, the important ingredient. Maverick Sabre never showed, and Aggro Santos and Skepta performed too, no comment.

Kof, Bratt, Selah, RD, Scorcher - The Mobo Awards should be going to these guys, I'm sure their time will come.
