Tinie Tempah - Disc-overy

Everybody new it was going to leak and here it is, Tinie Tempah's Debut album 'Disc-overy'. Consistency isn't the word, every track could go #1 and that's why Tinie is making huge waves right now with the first 3 singles off the album all going #1. The thing I like best with Tinie is when you listen to his early stuff, he's always had that kind of chart friendly grime/hip hop it's not like he's really selling out and definitely isn't following in Chipmunk's steps. He can gain the screaming 12 year old girl fans but he still has the connection with the real fans and you could still see a man turning up to his gig without loosing face.

Tinie obviously had the backing to take the album wherever he wanted, but it seems he might have had too much at his hands. Theres a lot of tech twitches going on in the tracks and it glosses it up making it slightly too clean cut, taking it away from the grime of the album, but that's what sells these days and no straight grime is ever going to chart without a pop chorus or an auto-tuned feature artist. Throwing in a dance track usually wouldn't work but Tinie carrys it through and takes it that one step further with it being a highlight of the album.

Track Listing:
1. Intro
2. Simply Unstoppable
3. Pass Out
4. Illusion
5. Just A Little ( Ft. Range)
6. Snap
7. Written In the Stars (Ft. Eric Turner)
8. Frisky (Ft. Labrinth)
9. Miami 2 Ibiza (Ft. Swedish House Mafia)
10. Obsession
11. Invincible ( Ft Kelly Rowland)
12. Wonderman (Ft. Ellie Golding)
13. Let Go ( Ft. Emeli Sande)

You don't loose focus straight through the album, and theres always a good beat or guest feature to keep you locked in. I'm glad he hasn't kept it straight #TeamUK throughout the album because Roc Nation's Range, and Kelly Rowland definitely contribute a lot, with 'Invincible' and 'Just A Little' topping the album for me. He's got a nice combo of collabs and solo tracks but the tracks with features are coming out on top. I would have liked to see Tinchy jump on one of the tracks or a more high profile UK artist, but Kelly Rowland on the album more than makes up for it. Labrinth really helped this album along producing some really high flying songs, and in return, the recognition he got from the projects him and Tinie have been churning out has launched him deservedly into the spotlight himself.

Overall It's not quite the album I was expecting, but It's one of the best that you will hear this year, and probably my second  best of 2010. It's guarenteed Tinie is going to have the double with 'Written In the Stars' sticking at #1 on the singles whilst 'Disc-overy' is set to debut #1 on the albums chart. Theres no holding back Tinie and with his first own headlining tour in october, things just keep going up. I would expect to see him overseas very soon and think he's one for Jay-Z to take on board.

Best: 'Invincible' Ft Kelly Rowland / 'Written in the stars' Ft. Eric Turner
Worst: 'Simply unstoppable' - sounds a bit forced.
